Bad Tom – No donut!

Some rather aggressive Spam settings in both WordPress and my Gmail account have kept me from noticing non-spam comments that have been written over the last three or four months. I just happened to notice one before I deleted them, and went through the list.

I apologize to anyone who took the time to write something. I wasn’t ignoring you, but I have been remiss in my housekeeping duties. I should have checked things more carefully after tweaking my settings.

I will happily submit to a spanking, if it would make you happy.

Hotmail accounts automatically get filtered; last year I found that a large number of spammers were using Hotmail, so I added it. Comments with more than one hyperlink get filtered. I also filter out comments with certain keywords.

WordPress generally sends me a note when a comment is being held, but *not* when it thinks the comment is spam. Further, Gmail is pretty aggressive at filtering spam, and sometimes my WordPress moderation notes get shunted off.

Once in a while I go into the settings to add something, and I should remember to check back frequently to make sure that it’s not filtering the wrong things.

I notice that quite a few commenters still use Hotmail, so I’m tempted to remove that filter to see what happens.
