99 Luftbloggers

So, over the course of the last month or so, both my work PC and my personal laptop have had issues, rendering me without regular access to teh intertubez. Or more correctly, without private access, unencumbered by family, friends, and cow-orkers hanging over my shoulder. Other than a few comments here and there, and a handful of web forum posts, the internet sex community has had to do without my wit, charm, and insights, not to mention my awesome modeling of humility and modesty. Sorry about that, but I’m glad to see that you’ve all kept things running smoothly.

As it happens, my laptop lost power during the middle of an update, and while everything was salvaged, I made a point to stop playing with the Linux distros I’d been, er, playing with, and to get serious about using one. This meant that even after I got things up and running, I’ve spent quite a bit of time setting up my accounts, tweaking the system, learning the ropes (Yes, they sell a Linux for Dummies book), and trying not to screw anything else up. I’m surprisingly happy, although I’ve been frustrated any number of times when I discovered that my madd DOS and Windows skillz were completely useless most of the time. But I now have a system that boots up perhaps 5 times more quickly, and runs rather snappily on my old Dell laptop. Yes, I’m dual booting, but I haven’t had to use WinXP on this machine so far, and I’ve even configured the boot menu to default to this particular Gnome distro. My next project is to get this up and running on my work PC, but I won’t get to that until my Xmas break.

But you’re not here to read about my computer problems. My laptop is running, I know which buttons to press, so  that means it’s time to stop messing around and to get back to writing. Or perhaps I should say, get back to sex blogging, which is why you’re here. Ironically, just when I was compelled to stop writing, I discovered that I was voted as one of the Top 100 Sex Bloggers of 2009. I’m thrilled, to say the least, the honor only slightly marred by the fact that I can’t gloat about this at the family dinner parties. However, my new celebrity status has made me strangely more attractive to Mrs. Edge, suggesting to me that a post about blogger groupies might be in the works.

Seriously, my sincere thanks to Aurora, and the rest of the judging staff at Between My Sheets; it sounds like they had quite a project. I’m pleased to discover that many of the bloggers were already on my blogroll or RSS feed list. I’m also happy to have discovered a few more interesting reads. Finally, my best wishes to all of the other sex bloggers (even those who did not make this list) – I’ve enjoyed the little insights into your life, and I appreciate the time that you’ve taken to entertain and educate the rest of us.

For those of you who haven’t see it yet, the top 100 list follows:

Top 100 Sex Bloggers of 2009

It’s here. Finally. I promised it earlier, I know. Life got in the way (I’ll talk about it in my next post). That, and I had well over 150 unique nominations this year, counting all the comments and the nominations I received via email. Last year, I didn’t get nearly as many, and a good number of the nominations were my own.

I first compiled this list last year as a way to recognize the people who are courageous enough to put their lives or fantasies or opinions (or all three and more) out there to entertain and inspire the rest of us. I also hoped that this would bring new readers to every blogger on the list, and I had hoped that it would be an icebreaker way for bloggers to get to know one another. It was a smashing success, so I decided to make it an annal event.

This year, I had a number of other sex bloggers and readers help me with the judging. Special thanks to:

If you helped me and I missed your name or linked your incorrectly, PLEASE email me so I can fix it. For example else, you can say “thanks for the list” by visiting all of these websites and getting to know these wonderful men and women.

At the end of the day, even with the help of all the other judges, there were still ties or moments when I just felt like a certain blogger was being judged too harshly. This is still my list, still my opinion. So if you have beef, take it up with me, not with any of the other judges.

  100. YOU! As always that last person on the list is you. Please, please, please leave a comment below promoting your own blog (or the blog of someone you love). Links are welcome, as long as they lead us to a sex-related blog, not a retail website or porn aggregation site.

If you’re a blogger on this list and I’ve made a mistake (the link is wrong, you want your name to be changed, etc), please email me right away and I’ll change it!
Some FAQ about the 2009 list:

  • Why was I/my favorite blogger included?

The most common reasons are that they weren’t nominated, their blog was password protected, or they have been blogging for less than six months. You can read more at this page.

  • How were these bloggers selected?

Myself and a number of other bloggers rated them on a scale from 1 to 10 based on site design, frequency of posting, quality of posts, readership interaction, and more.  Our ratings were averaged and I acted as the tiebreaker.

  • Can I repost this list on my website?

YES YES YES YES YES. This list is most beneficial if it is reposted across the web. I only ask that you credit me with a link to this site or this post, rather than trying to pass it off as your own. If you do your own list, though, let me know – I’ll support it here!

  • How can I say thank you for this list?

First, visit the websites of all of the judges. They’re awesome.

Second, leave a comment here, on this post, promoting your site or a site you love that wasn’t included on the list.

Third, come back next year to nominate blogs and participate as a judge.

Fourth, pick up something sexy though one of my affiliate links. I recommend the site VibeReview.com for toys and other spicy stuff. You can also buy anything on Amazon using this link and I’ll get a commission. It’s much appreciated to help keep this blog going, and with Christmas coming, I’m sure there’s something you can pick up for someone you love.

Fifth, subscribe to Between the Sheets or bookmark the homepage and come back often! :)

    Ooo! Congratulations, you!

(Anyone taking bets on whether too much wine at a dinner party will bring on the bragging, despite it all?)

    Glad to see you back.

  2. ptathuk says:

Congratulations. And yes, I did notice your absence. Glad you’re back.

(Quote)I’m thrilled, to say the least, the honor only slightly marred by the fact that I can’t gloat about this at the family dinner parties.

Gloating Mr Allen? Don’t you do this for the pure motive of public service? Us gropies (err groupies) hanging on your every word. Now that you’re important as well as famous, will it cost us mere mortals a nickel to talk to you?

(Quote) However, my new celebrity status has made me strangely more attractive to Mrs. Edge…

Ah, major gropie (err groupie)? Have you asked her why? I think our motivations can be very revealing – strangely.

Seriously, well done. Hope to see you climb the poll.

  3. Cat says:

As if we needed anything else to inflate that ego of yours…Seriously though congrats.

  4. french says:

Congratulations 🙂 That list is where I found you – and I’m glad I did!

  5. Aarkey says:

    Congrats Tom.

At a quick glance it looks like you are in the top #10 ranked men on the list too. (Top 5?)

I’ve never been big on the listing / ranking stuff, it objectifies people. Plus, I never seem to make any of the lists, but I also don’t go posting lots of half naked pictures of myself either 😉

  6. Fusion says:

Congratulations Tom. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. And welcome back, I was wondering too until I read your comment over on SG’s blog, gotta love computers…

  7. I feel I have stumbled a cradle of kinky civilisation. An unburned library of Alexandria that is still very, very hot! Award well deserved no doubt.

  8. Guter Post, vielen Dank.
