Fifty Shades of Grey Actor Quits Movie after Reading Fifty Shades of Grey

Fifty Shades of Grey Actor Quits Movie after Reading Fifty Shades of Grey – Neatorama.

Yeah, why doesn’t this surprise me? The guy finally got around to reading the script, and then backed out, citing scheduling conflicts. I guess that’s a lot more tactful than saying “Wow, this is freaking terrible!”

More interesting, though, was the tone of the article:

The “Sons of Anarchy” actor last month was cast as the BDSM freak Christian Grey in the movie version of the middle-aged mom porn book, which is widely considered to be an embarrassment to literature…

I highlighted the “BDSM freak” part because this is pretty much what I’ve been saying all along. “50 Shades” won’t bring BDSM into the mainstream in a healthy way, because the characters in the books are portrayed as damaged or broken.

Speaking of things that are going to get damaged…

Not too many shades here

I don’t expect to see this scene in a major motion picture anytime soon.

About Tom Allen

The Grey Geezer Dauntless defender of, um, something that needed dauntless defending. Dammit, I can't read this script without my glasses. Hey, you kids, get off my damn lawn!

I think they should just turn the script over to Wicked films. Wicked is very good with actually having a plot in their films and you can expect a porn VS R ratings. But we’ll see.

  3. I think the guy just figured out that he had more self-respect than to associate with this. I can think of a hundred other books that would make better movies. The thing is: Movies rarely follow the flow of a book. They could actually get someone who knows how to do plots and character development to do a treatment and make it a worthwhile venture. In my opinion, they moved to slow to catch the open window on this. It’s done.

  4. I haven’t read the book, but I’ve seen one of the parody musicals, which was a hoot, and I’m following Pervocracy’s teardown. I hadn’t realized just what tripe it is. And you’re right, this is not good for the folks who live this way.

But for the bit regarding the photo, have you seen the open to “Mr. & Mrs. Smith?” Played very differently, but not far off visually.
